Worlds AIDS Day
The Worlds AIDS day is celebrated 1st of December every year, all over the world. Local branches all over Norway take part in this celebration and contribute to create awareness about the worldwide AIDS epidemic. This is a chance to show solidarity with people living with HIV and people suffering from AIDS all over the world .
The AIDS epidemic is a catastrophe in slow motion. According to the UN as many as 40 million people are living with HIV all over the world today, and as many as 25 millions have died from AIDS.
Through celebrating 1st of December organizations and individuals set one of the greatest humanitarian disasters on the agenda. The purpose of the day is the same for all; to convey information about the crisis and work against stigmatization of people living with HIV and AIDS all over the world. The Worlds AIDS day was originally established by UNAIDS in 1988, but is today fronted by Worlds Aids Campaign.

What does the Red Cross do in the fight against HIV and AIDS?
The Red Cross and Red Cresent fight HIV and AIDS both locally and globally. The fight against HIV and AIDS is diverse and extends from prevention amongst young people to care for people suffering from AIDS.
The Norwegian Red Cross Youth works to prevent HIV and AIDS amongst young people. Through Active Choice we give information about sexually transmitted infections (STIs); we want better access to free condoms and free STI testing for youth. Active Choice also works to improve the sexual health education in schools
In addition to spreading knowledge about how HIV transmits from one person to another, the Red Cross Youth emphasizes on busting myths about HIV and AIDS. To fight stigma of people living with HIV and AIDS we also need to know how HIV does not transmit. The campaign The Truth about Aids- Pass it on is an important part of our work.
