Sahar El Hachem (24)
From the the city Byblos of Lebanon, Sahar got to know of the Youth delegate programme through her local Red Cross where she has been a member and volunteer for the last six years with many responsibilities.
Profession and hobbies: By profession, she is a law trainee and worked for one year.
Sahar very much like swimming and walking.
Within the Red Cross Sahar has been involved in the following programmes:
- The last 2 of these 6 years, she has been Youth president in her local Red Cross.
- hiv/aids awareness campaigns
- Trainer in communication, leadership and group dynamics
Expectation for the Youth delegate programme:
She is expecting to learn more the Norwegian Red Cross and to work with different target groups that she used to work with.
Challenges:
“I think everything will be challenging for me but my first one will be riding my bicycle on the snow!” She says.
What she knows about Norway:
She has been in Norway before so she thinks she knows a little bit about the cold weather and the different food.
What she misses most:
She will miss her family, friends, food and Lebanese lifestyle
What motivates and inspires her:
Family, friends and surely herself
Wissam Mardes (27)

From the south part of Lebanon, Wissam got to know of the Youth delegate programme through his local Red Cross where he has been a member and volunteer for the last nine years with so many responsibilities.
Profession and hobbies:
By profession, he is a computer programmer. Apart from volunteering with the Red Cross, Wissam also work as a sales man. He also enjoys swimming and coming up with puzzles.
Within the Red Cross Wissam has been involved in the following programmes:
- trainer of trainers on HIV/AIDS
- Dissemination of International Humanitarian Law
- Dissemination on healthy environmental activities
- Activities with children e.g. summer camps, handicapped, old people est.
- Land mines awareness
Expectations for the Youth delegate programme:
Wissam is looking forward to share his experience, knowledge and gain more skills too and not only from the Red Cross but from the society with other useful source of information regarding youth development and empowerment.
Knowledge about Norway before arrival:
He already knew a lot about Norway because he has many Norwegian Soldiers working with the United Nations in Southern Lebanon before.” I know a little bit about the culture, their national day and nice places which I saw on pictures.”
What will he miss most from home?
He will miss his small and bigger family, friends many volunteers from the LRC youth.” I will miss the food and my dog!!!” He says.
