When disaster hits

Av Sunniva Lofthus Sandø

(04.01.2007) Tsunami, earth quake, hunger and drought. Disasters affect people all over the world. In the Red Cross Youth you can help the victims.

Only the last years, disasters have affected millions of people. Many have lost both their loved ones and everything they own. Some of the catastrophes have happened suddenly and within few minutes left people completely dependant on help to survive.

What does the Norwegian Red Cross Youth?

The big disasters often awaken huge emotions and many want to do something actively to help the victims. Emergency relief is one of the most important tasks for the Red Cross movement and our international network enables us to reach the victims fast. In order to prevent and limit the damages when such disasters hit, we need support and solidarity.

The Red Cross Youth helps those who are affected by disasters. We want to put focus on tragedies and suffering world wide. The goal is to create more solidarity in local communities and contribute to youth getting involved in the Red Cross’ work for those who suffer. We will mass mobilize youth to support the Red Cross disaster and emergency relief work through participation in fundraising events, campaigns and solidarity events.

”When disaster hits” is a new area of focus for the Red Cross Youth which will be developed and established throughout 2006/2007. We want young people to give us their ideas on how we can develop this activity in the best way, making it involve and interest as many people as possible nation wide.
