(27.01.2009) On the 17 of January it was time for the well known January sale. Red Cross Youth in Bergen was all set to sell out a couple of Sudanese slaves.
17. January was a historical day. In the center of Bergen city, volunteers spread awareness about the slavery of the century, and gave people information about human trafficking.
A lot of people was shocked when they saw an auction that was selling people in the city center of Bergen, as a girl shouted loudly “come on, see what we have here, he is a strong slave from Sudan, he can be used for farming, building, and he can carry loads up to 80 Kg, come and see”.
“Sold for 1000 kroner,” she said; after competition on prices between volunteers down there trying to attract people to the auction. Then other slaves offered for sell.

Besides the auction, there was also a campaign for handing out leaflets with information about human trafficking to the people around the Torgallmenningen, in the city center. As well as selling of human organs in a January sale.

The secretary general of the Norwegian Red Cross - Ole Jørgen Krohn-Nydal, passed by the stand, and stopped there to greet the volunteers. Actually, it was a nice incident that made the volunteers very happy and proud that the secretary general attended a part in their activity down there.
